Château Langoa is the archetype of the 18th century bordelaise style with harmonious proportions. Hugh Barton, whose family came from Ireland in the eighteen century, bought the Château Langoa in 1821. The Château is surrounded by a park planted mostly with oak trees and a garden combining the orderly French style with a more informal English touch. The Bartons have managed to preserve their inheritance for more than two centuries. From one generation to another the wines produced by the two properties have maintained the quality of their classification, offering wines at the very top of their appellation. Châteaux Langoa and Léoville-Barton are in the very heart of the appellation of St Julien.
VINTAGE INFO:
2006 was a good year for Bordeaux. It presented great opportunity but also some challenges due to a rainy harvest season. In general, left-bank Bordeaux appellations dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon like St Julien faired very well.
TASTING NOTES:
I tried Chateau Langoa Barton 2006 in April 2025 and it was drinking exceptionally well. It was showing lots of bottle-aged signs, like tobacco, leather and dried forest leaves but it had retained a lot of fresh fruit on the nose. Think blackcurrant and dark ripe cherries.
On the palate, the rich tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon have mellowed nicely, making this exceptionally smooth whilst retaining great structure and body. This wine is worth every penny.
FOOD PAIRING:
A wine of this quality and complexity really deserves a good food pairing. Confit duck for me would be a winning pairing.
DRINKING WINDOW:
I believe this is currently hitting it’s peak and will be good until 2030
