Domaine Lafond is a family winery that has been passed down from father to son. Their mantra is simple, they want to produce the best wine possible and it all starts with the grapes and the soil they grow in. Huge worth is placed on biodiversity and organic agriculture across They have plantings across the Rhone region, including Chateauneuf du Pape and Lirac.
This organic Lirac Blanc from Domaine Lafond is just wonderful. I took my brother to a portfolio tasting in Westminster and the moment we both tried it, we knew we were buying it. The blend is comprised of hand-picked Grenache, Rousanne and Viognier grapes, and it is cold fermented, then bottled young to preserve its freshness.
Expect a wonderful wine with citrus, stone fruit and white flower aromas. The temperature starts to warm up in The Southern Rhone so you get lots of body to this wine, thanks in part to the Viognier. So despite it being a young, fruity wine it also has lovely high alcohol (14%) and the acidity to match.
We would say that this lovely organic Lirac would pair very well with shellfish. If you like mussels then you’re in for a treat, as this will work very well with them. If you’re not a shellfish fan then just have it as an aperitif. It won’t disappoint!
