Contessa di Radda celebrates the great winemaking tradition of the local winegrowers. It started as a cooperative in the 1960’s by 17 winegrowers. The purpose of the cooperative – is the production of wines that fit the traditions of different regions of Tuscany, as well as the use of technical innovations which could contribute to the quality of the wines.
WINE PRODUCTION:
Their Chianti Classico is produced from 250 hectares of vineyards in the southern part of the region, at an altitude of between 280 and 600 meters above sea level. The Sangiovese and Merlot grapes are vinified separately with approximately 14 days maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in cement tanks.
TASTING NOTES:
On the nose expect rich, generous aromas of violets, with plum jam and cherries. The fruit notes then make way to hints of tobacco leaf and liquorice. On the palate, it’s medium-full bodied with rich tannins but balanced acidity to match. There’s notes of cherry and a certain ‘woodiness’ to it.
FOOD PAIRING:
It may be a cliché but a nice rich beef lasagne with this would be perfect with this Chianti Classico
