This is a vibrant new-world Cabernet Sauvignon, rich in colour with a hint of garnet on the rim. The wine has notes of bramble and blackcurrant on the nose, with little hints of leather and dried leaves. It’s a big wine but remains velvety, silky and smooth.
The wine is a blend of two parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and matured in a combination of first fill and third fill oak barrels. This helps add spice to the bouquet of the wine and give it more of a rounded mouthfeel.
Grand Vin de Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon has distinctive aromatics that represent the beauty of the Stellenbosch region. With refined and well-integrated tannins, the wine is very accessible now but will also benefit from maturation for up to another five years.
FOOD PAIRING:
Grand Vin de Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon deserves a good food pairing and I would have this with beef wellington. It needs something rich and complex to stand up to it.
