Rioja Vega is a very approachable, young and lighter style of Rioja. This falls under the ‘Joven‘ classification, which literally translates to ‘young’. The only grape variety in this is Tempranillo
When it comes to this wine, think fresh. It’s got bright aromas of fresh red berries and hints of eucalyptus. The grape skins spent only three days in contact with the juice and it was fermented in stainless steel, in order to extract many fruit forward qualities in the wine.
Joven Rioja is completely different to Reserva or Gran Reserva Riojas, as it hasn’t had any oak ageing. There’s lovely subtle tannin in this, coupled with wonderful acidity which makes this fruit forward Rioja Joven a wonderfully balanced wine.
As it is lighter, but well-structured this wine can pair very well with a lot of dishes. It’s light enough to go with things like mild chicken curry and it obviously pairs well with cured Jamon Iberico. However, we personally would pair this with a nice wedge of stilton or a wonderful beef chilli.
