Jules Richard Macon Aze

£17.95

WHAT IS MACON AZE?

Azé is a village within the Macon sub-region in Burgundy. It’s one of the most southerly parts of Bourgogne/Burgundy before hitting the Beaujolais region. The wine label signifies that the wine was made in the Aze village within Macon. Whites from Macon Azé are always made from Chardonnay.

TASTING NOTES:

This is a fresh style of Chardonnay. It’s fermented at a lower temperature, which helps it retain fresh and crisp qualities, whilst avoiding the buttery qualities that Chardonnay can sometimes be known for. It was aged in steel tanks with a little bit of lees stirring, to give it a bit more texture.

The nose is very appealing, notes of buttered apple, pear and floral characters. There is a distinct nuttiness which sits perfectly alongside the marked freshness and streaks of tropical fruit.

Jules Richard Macon Azé is a great introduction to Burgundy wine. It offers all the quality of Burgundy but won’t break the bank, compared to other wines from the rest of the region.

WHY SHOULD I TRY JULES RICHARD MACON AZE?
Well, we first tried it back at the London Wine Fair. It had been listed in Wine Merchant magazine’s top 100 wines of 2024 and when we tasted it we could see why. Quality wine, with enough complexity to justify the price, while remaining approachable and easy drinking.
FOOD PAIRING:
At the time of writing, it’s a bit chilly and autumn is starting to show it’s face. A wine like this would be perfect with a hearty risotto. Chicken and mushroom with sage and caramelised onions would be my go to.
