Rossello Nebbiolo d’Alba

£13.99

WHAT IS NEBBIOLO d’ALBA?

Nebbiolo is the name of the grape. It’s widely regarded as one of Italy’s most celebrated grapes, as it used in the production of the very prestigious Barolo. The d’Alba bit means ‘of Alba’. Alba is an area of Northern Italy. So basically, this wine translates to ‘Nebbiolo of Alba’

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

Nebbiolo is known for producing wines with a medium-body but really fine and intense tannins. It’s got wonderful red fruit characteristics mixed with hints of spice. As mentioned, the tannins are integrated nicely so they don’t dry your mouth out. This is a wine that will impress your friends at a party but won’t break the bank. Consider it as a ‘Baby Barolo’.

Back in April 2024 I had the pleasure of going to Vinitaly in Verona, Italy. If you follow our socials then you’ll have undoubtedly seen my posts. I had the pleasure of meeting my good friend Marco Cabrelli, an importer and restaurateur from Manchester. He introduced me to his friend (and now my friend) Giulio Rossello. Most importantly, he introduced me to Giulio’s wines. They were fabulous!

Fast-forward to July and we have just received our first shipment of Rossello wines, including this amazing Nebbiolo d’Alba.

FOOD PAIRING:

This wine is very silky and smooth on the palate. It’s not a wine to take lightly though, as it has loads of complexity going on with it. Pair this Nebbiolo d’Alba with a midweek beef ragu. Put a nice bit of brisket in the slow cooker with carrot, onion, celery and tomatoes. Add sage, thyme and a small pinch of cinnamon, go to work. Come back, blitz the vegetables and the herbs with the reduce, reduce it and then combine everything with rigatoni pasta, topped with some Parmigianno Regianno. Perfect!
