You may or may not be aware that The Grape Kitchen is somewhat of a family business. I (James) own it and my parents both help out in our retail concession and on deliveries. My girlfriend even moonlights as our accounts receivable department.
Why am I telling you this? Well, on occasion I will invite both Kathryn & Jon (Mum and Dad) to buying events. Here, we have a simple strategy, a wine gets a tick for each person who wants to buy it. If it gets three ticks then we buy it. Vinha do Conde red got three ticks.
WHAT IS VINHA DO CONDE?
This is a red wine from Alentejo in Portugal. It’s made from Aragonêz, Trincadeira, Castelão grape varieties.
TASTING NOTES:
It’s a full-bodied wine that’s high in alcohol but soft on the palate. Expect a smooth textured wine, with wonderfully integrated tannins bursting with rich red fruit flavours. It’s a great wine for red wine lovers in general. It’ll please people who like the softer medium-bodied Merlot based wines but will equally please those who like richer reds.
FOOD PAIRING:
Pair this with traditional Portuguese duck rice.
