White Rioja’s popularity is rising, however it still only makes up about 10% of wine production in the region. White Rioja can vary in style. It can be fermented in stainless steel (like this one) or it can be barrel fermented. Some white Riojas also undergo malolactic fermentation, giving the wine a bit more of a creamy texture and taste. However, Rioja Vega Blanco was fermented in stainless steel and didn’t undergo MLF.
TASTING NOTES
“What does this all mean for my wine?” I hear you ask. Well it means that this has more fruit notes and is higher in acidity. Essentially this wine is really clean and bright. The natural qualities in the grapes shine through, rather than the effects of any winemaking practices.
Alegro Rioja Blanco is straw-yellow in colour. It boasts lovely floral aromas, intertwined with hints of citrus, crisp green apple and hints of stone fruit. It’s a perfect introduction to white Rioja.
