The Loire Valley is my favourite region for Sauvignon Blanc production. There’s a certain elegance to these wines that is unrivalled. Pouilly-Fumé is one of the best examples of this wonderful expressions.
What Is Pouilly-Fumé
Pouilly-Fumé is a place. It’s a town located in the east of the Loire Valley in Northern France. The wine produced here is predominantly white made from the Sauvignon Blanc Grape.
Chatelain ‘Harmonie’ 2023 Pouilly-Fume is grown on 80% limestone and 20% flint soil, on slopes that overlook the upper Loire Valley. The soil type is really important, because it gives the wine this wonderful mineral quality to it, along with flint notes, making this wine steely and complex, yet extremely refreshing.
What Does This Wine Taste Like?
Domaine Chatelain ‘Harmonie’ Pouilly-Fume was fermented and aged in stainless steel, which preserves the pure varietal expression of the wine. Expect beautiful green apple and pear aromas, complimented by hints of lemon and light citrus notes. These flavours transcend from the nose to the palate and linger in the mouth for a long time. The acidity in this wine will leave your mouth watering for days.
All in all, it’s a great wine. It will retain it’s fruit for up to five years, so you can drink it now or cellar it for a while.
Food Pairing:
We would recommend pairing this wine with a good goat’s cheese salad or a goat’s cheese tart.
