One thing that can put people off being adventurous with wine is when they see a bunch of words in a language that they don’t understand. I get it, don’t worry.
This wine has the potential to be one of those, however it’s so good we can’t let it fall into obscurity. With this in mind, let me break down the words for you…
Reh Kendermann = The brand/Producer
Riesling = The Grape
Kalkstein = Limestone
This is a wonderful dry Riesling from the Pfalz region of Germany. The Riesling grapes were grown in limestone soil, which is one of the best soils for wine production. It retains water in dry months but provides good drainage in the wet months, helping grapes reach full ripeness and sugar concentration.
You may have a preconception of German wine, which is fine. For a long time most of the wine coming to the UK from Germany were sweet table wines. However there’s so much more to wine from Germany.
This lovely Pfalz dry Riesling is packed with excellent and elegant mineral notes, boosted by exotic fruit flavours, hints of peach and crisp green apple aromas. The main adjective to describe this is crisp. All the fruit notes are so crisp and delightful, complimented by balanced but high levels of acidity. It will make your mouth water and you’ll be craving the next before you’ve finished your first!
