Royal Oporto Colheita 2004 is a very special Port and the perfect gift for a loved one!
WHAT IS A COLHEITA?
Simply put, a Colheita is a vintage Tawny Port.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Well a Tawny Port is a style of Port that is aged in huge oak casks which aren’t air tight. This allows a the Port to slightly oxidise and brings out wonderful nutty and oxidative qualities.
WHAT’S THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IT BEING VINTAGE?
In Port making, most general quality Ports are a blend of different years, so when they make a vintage it means that the conditions were significantly better than normal years so the result is a more superior Port.
HOW DOES ROYAL OPORTO 2004 COLHEITA TASTE?
In a word, superb. It’s smooth and nutty with beautiful caramel notes. It retains notes of dried fruit such as figs and oranges and then has beautiful savoury qualities from bottle ageing such as beef jerky, making it wonderfully complex.
