This wine has a special place in my memory, because back in 2019 I promoted this wine on BBC Radio Sheffield. I had to pair it with a dish that a local chef was cooking, live on air. Also, one of my closest friends and longest serving customers swears by this wine. So there’s sentiment behind stocking this.
The most important thing is though, this wine is delicious.
Single varietal Petit Verdot is a rarity. It is often used as a blending partner in Bordeaux wines. When done wrong (under ripe) it can be astringent, overly tannic and bitter. When done right, it’s amazing. The KWV classic single varietal Petit Verdot has wonderful notes of violet, sweet spice, mulberries and black cherries. It’s so fruit forward and balanced with notes of pencil shavings. Yes I know that sounds weird, but trust me!
