Quinta da Calcada Alvarinho

If anybody knows me then they know how much Alvarinho/Albarino. It’s just a wonderful grape. They’ll also know that I love Vinho Verde, as it’s a fabulous wine style. When I first tried this Alvarinho Vinho Verde I almost instantly knew I had to stock it.

This is part of Calcada Wines’ ‘Terroir Range’ and was made to showcase the unique minerality of the Quinta da Calcada terroir. Boy does it!

Vinho Verde DOC generally produces simple wine of a refreshing nature, normally lower in alcohol. However there are a number of premium fuller-bodied examples and this is one of them.

Quinta da Calcada Alvarinho spent four months on its fine lees, giving the wine a more complexity than the likes of Lago Vinho Verde (which we love). Expect a vibrant wine, packed full of mineral notes and tropical fruit flavours. There’s a slight effervescence to this wine and the tiny little bubbles dance on your tongue for a little while, making way for a long finish, full of acidity and those beautiful mineral notes.

At 13% this is wine has a great body to it, bringing a full and rounded mouthfeel. We’d recommend pairing Quinta da Calcada Alvarinho with sea bass and salsa verde.
