Rioja Vega Tinto is a very approachable, style of Rioja. 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha make a wonderful, well structured drop with red berry notes.
This Rioja is young in comparison to Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva Riojas, as it hasn’t had half as much time ageing before release. A short period of oak ageing gives it subtle notes of vanilla and cedar which bring a bit of complexity to the wine. However, it is a fruit forward wine, with the aforementioned notes of red berries!
There’s lovely subtle tannin in this, coupled with wonderful acidity which makes this fruit forward Rioja Joven a wonderfully balanced wine.
As it is lighter, but well-structured this wine can pair very well with a lot of dishes. It’s light enough to go with things like mild chicken curry and it obviously pairs well with cured Jamon Iberico. However, we personally would pair this with a nice wedge of stilton or a wonderful beef chilli.
