‘Ace by Stakhovsky’ is a line of wines that have been created in Ukraine by former Tennis player, Sergiy Stakhovsky. Yes, you read right. Ukraine.
As an elite athlete and world-famous tennis player, Sergiy Stakhovsky didn’t think wine had a place in his life. That is until he was offered a spot to play in the French Team Championship for the Bordeaux team, Villa Primrose.
His time in Bordeaux was a life-changing experience, where he started to learn about the terroir and for the first time in his life learning to love wine from a consumer perspective.
The rest, as they say, is history.
The grapes for the ‘Ace’ by Stakhovsky Cabernet Sauvignon are grown in the Zakarpattia region, right in the west of Ukraine. The grapes are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Due to Sergiy’s time in Bordeaux, it has distinct similarities in style to the world-famous French region. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak and exudes rich flavours of blackcurrant, cherry, spices, and earth.
There were only 20,000 bottles produced, so it’s considered pretty small-batch.
