It can be quite confusing when the title of a wine literally gives you no indication of what is in it. It can also be a bit off putting when the picture of the item doesn’t look great (apologies). However, all you need to know about this wine is I shared a bottle of it with my dad the other week.
My dad is a man of few words, but he chooses them wisely. I poured a glass, he took a sip and said ‘ooh, that’s nice”. So, that’s all you need to know about this wine.
Fine, for those of you who demand to know more, i’ll tell you. La Bouissiere is a small winery based in Gigondas. Fine, i’ll let you know more. Gigondas is in the Southern Rhone. The grapes for this wine were picked from an assortment of plots in the region and uses slightly different grapes than those that are permitted under appellation rules, so it’s technically categorised as Vin de France, rather than coming under it’s own appellation.
This doesn’t mean the wine is bad at all. Quite the contrary.
This wine is gorgeous. The typical blend for Southern Rhone wines are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Les Amis de la Bouissiere, however, is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Merlot. You may be thinking that the differentiation of one grape doesn’t mean much, but it really does. This wine is full bodied, it’s rich and it’s spicy. However, the replacement of Merlot for Mourvedre brings a wonderful softness to the wine. It rounds the wine off and gives it lighter fruit notes.
Essentially, all I need to say about this wine is that it’s a great wine. It’s unfiltered, it’s small batch and it’s great quality.
If you like full-bodied wines, this is for you. If you like smooth/easy drinking wines, then this is also for you. It’s very balanced. It’s got tannin, it’s got spice, it’s got high alcohol but it just goes down so well.
I may have wrote this after having a glass or two.
