As usual, the world of wine can be a bit confusing and don’t worry if you’ve never heard of Garganega before. We’ll talk you through it.
WHAT IS GARGANEGA?
Garganega is the name of the grape in this wine. It’s typically planted in Northern Italy, notably the Soave region. If you’ve ever tried Soave Classico then you’ve tried Garganega. In Sicily, Garganega is called Grecanico. Garganega typically produces fresh white wines, with citrus and almond notes. If you like Sauvignon Blanc then give this a try.
WHAT DOES CANTINA DI NEGRAR GARGANEGA TASTE LIKE?
This is typical of the classic Garganega style. It’s fruit forward, so expect citrus and apple notes. There’s tiny hints of grapefruit and beautiful acidity.
The wine was made from grapes picked from vines with an average age of between 20-30 years. It was fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 14-16 degrees Celsius in order to show the true varietal character of the grape.
LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT LABEL
The label is one of the funkiest labels I’ve seen for a while. It’s design takes inspiration from Greek mythology and is a homage to Ulysses‘ 10-year journey home from Troye to Ithaca.
WHAT SHALL I PAIR CANTINA DI NEGRAR GARGANEGA WITH?
Something light. A simple green salad with grilled chicken and a splash of olive oil will be perfect
