Lightfoot & Wolfville Brut Rosé 2020
WHO ARE LIGHTFOOT & WOLFVILLE?
Lightfoot & Wolfville are a family-owned winery, based in the town of Wolfville in the Gaspereau Valley. They’re one of the only wineries in the region that practice biodynamic farming and all their wines are certified organic at the very least. I’m so excited to have their 2020 Brut rosé in stock, joining the rest of our Nova Scotian wines.
WHAT’S EXCITING ABOUT LIGHTFOOT & WOLFVILLE BRUT ROSÉ 2020?
So many things! Traditionally, Nova Scotian wines have been hybrid heavy, but LW's brut rosé uses Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir (the traditional black grapes used in Champagne).
The grapes were harvested from two different vineyards, one in Wolfville and one in Avonport (six miles apart). The Pinot Noir portion (75%) was macerated on skins for 12 hours before pressing, while the Pinot Meunier component (25%) was whole cluster pressed with minimal skin contact time.
TASTING NOTES:
The colour boasts a deep salmon pink. On the nose, ripe fruit and floral notes dominate, in particular strawberry and plum, with hints of rose petal. The fruit flavours carry through to the palate with a mid-palate creaminess. This is from the full malolactic conversion. The creaminess, with the fruit are reminiscent of strawberries and cream. It sits really nicely in the mouth with good body that you wouldn't expect from a wine of 11% alcohol.

FOOD PAIRING:
Strawberries and cream. It's a no brainer. However, if you want something savoury then I would suggest some nice scallops, seared in butter with a splash of red wine vinegar.
