Rossello Barolo

Back in April 2024 I had the pleasure of going to Vinitaly in Verona, Italy. If you follow our socials then you’ll have undoubtedly seen my posts. I had the pleasure of meeting my good friend Marco Cabrelli, an importer and restaurateur from Manchester. He introduced me to his friend (and now my friend) Giulio Rossello. Most importantly, he introduced me to Giulio’s wines. They were fabulous!

Fast-forward to July and we received our first shipment of Rossello wines, including this amazing Barolo.

WHAT IS BAROLO?

Barolo (pronounced Bar-ollo) is without a doubt the most famous wine style coming out of Piedmont, if not Italy in General. It's made from the Nebbiolo grape and has to be aged for a minimum of 38 months before it is released, with 18 months of those five years in oak. This time ageing helps the wine develop an abundance of complex flavours and textures.

TASTING NOTES:

As previously stated, it's made from the Nebbiolo grape. Nebbiolo typically produces wine that are medium-full bodied and they pack a load of tannins. With Rosello Barolo expect an abundance of red cherry notes, intertwined with slightly more tertiary notes, like leather, liquorice and tobacco. The time in oak gives it some lovely sweet spice on the nose too. The time spent ageing helps everything harmonise together and the tannins, even though distinct and powerful fit seamlessly into the wine. Rossello Barolo is a wine to be taken seriously and it will undoubtedly impress your friends when you bring it over on a Saturday night.

    FOOD PAIRING:

Barolo's distinct flavours and structure make it well-suited to many richer dishes. You could easily have this with a steak but I'm a big fan of truffle, so I would recommend a truffle, pancetta and wild mushroom risotto.
