This wine has the potential to be one of those, however it’s so good we can’t let it fall into obscurity. With this in mind, let me break down the words for you…

Schiefer Steillage = Slate Steep Slope

Germany’s Mosel region is world famous for its steep and stony slopes as well as its slate soil. It’s the perfect area for Riesling production.

The vines which grow on these steep slate slopes profit from the angle of the sun and the perfect heat storage property of the slate. It absorbs the heat from the day and gives it back to the vines at night. This helps the grapes to ripen, as Mosel is a cool climate region.
The result are wines with high minerality and a lively character.

This Riesling has wonderful crisp fruit aromas such as lemon, lime and flavours of green apple. These flavours are accompanied by mineral notes and it is all balanced out by elegant hints of residual sweetness. With this Riesling, the key word to look out for is Feinherb. This is a popular yet unofficial German term for off-dry.

All in all, this is a wonderful and authentic Mosel Riesling. We really do love this Riesling feinherb and It’s perfect for summer afternoons.
