Lapilli Falanghina Beneventano IGT
Lapilli Falanghina is a fantastic wine from Campania. More specifically, it's from Beneventano, even more specifically the wine is from a town called Avellino.
I go to Vinitaly most years and this year I was blown away by the wines from Campania. It's a region I haven't explored much, but really want to expand our portfolio of wines from the area.
WHAT IS FALANGHINA?
Falanghina is an ancient grape native to Campania. It dates back to the Roman empire and thrives in volcanic soils. This helps to give the wines a distinctive minerality and freshness. The name Lapilli refers to small volcanic stones, which is in tribute to the region's terroir and geology.
TASTING NOTES:
Expect citrus blossom, pears, apple and hints of tropical fruit. On the palate, it is crisp and has a wonderful salinity to it. It's unoaked, fresh and medium-bodied. If you like Pinot Grigio but want to step it up a notch, give this a try.
