Santa Tresa Rina Russa Frappato

Santa Tresa Rina Russo Frappato is absolutely fabulous.

However, this could be one of those wines that you may just scroll past because you don't know what any of the words mean. You definitely shouldn't scroll past this wine, so let me explain about it.

SANTA TRESA = This is the name of the winery. They're based in the south east side of Sicily.

RINA RUSSA = This is what they've called the wine. It's not the name of the grape. Rina Russa translates to 'red sand' in Sicilian dialect.

FRAPPATO = This is the name of the grape. Frappato is very common in Vittoria, Sicily. It's a wonderful grape that produces lighter-bodied red wine, reminiscent in style to Pinot Noir.

TASTING NOTES:

Well, as mentioned it's light in style. The wine is aged in stainless steel but spends 4-6 months ageing on it's fine lees, which provide a bit of balance to the wine. It stops it from being overly fruity and too acidic. I genuinely love this wine. It's ridiculously fresh and oozes aromas of strawberry and raspberry.

TRY THIS IF YOU LIKE:

If you're into your Pinot Noirs, Beaujolais and cool climate Merlots then you'll love this.

    FOOD PAIRING:

This is a really fresh wine and it's quite versatile. The light-body makes it perfect for summer barbecues and salads. A Tuna steak and orange salad would go perfectly with this wine. However, this would also pair really well with a turkey dinner. It wouldn't overpower the meat and the acidity would stand up to the saltiness of the gravy.
