Jonty's Ducks Pekin White

Back in September 2024 I had the pleasure of being introduced to Jonathan 'Jonty' Grieve, a very friendly and knowledgeable winegrower. Also, the owner of Avondale Winery in Paarl, South Africa. Upon this meeting we went through an extensive range of Avondale's wines
 
WHAT IS JONTY'S DUCKS?
 
This is a range of wines that Avondale make and they pay tribute to the ducks that roam through the vineyards, getting rid of pests. Avondale practice biodynamic farming, which is a natural approach. Because of this, they have to find natural ways to deal with pests on the vineyard. Jonty noticed that snails were prevalent on the land, so instead of spraying the land with chemicals he decided to find a natural predator. Enter Jonty's ducks.
 
Each day they roam around the vineyard helping keep pests away by just going around their business. Each evening they're rounded up in the duck mobile and taken to their pen, safely protected from any larger predators that may want to eat them.
 
TASTING NOTES:
 
Jonty's Ducks Pekin White is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, Muscat, Semillon, Viognier. Expect a full-bodied wine with a smooth yet waxy texture.
 
The nose displays pure fruit; lime, grapefruit and pineapple with just a dash of honey. The palate is dense with ripe flavours and juicy with tangy peach and apricot flavours, delivered with good intensity and freshness.
